Governor Sandoval Proclaims Kids’ Chance Awareness Week November 13-17 to Shed Light on the Seriousness of Workplace Accidents and Raise Awareness of Scholarship Fund

RENO, Nev.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- EMPLOYERS® (NYSE:EIG), America’s small business insurance specialist,® has signed on as the platinum sponsor of the newly formed non-profit, Kids’ Chance of Nevada, a state chapter of the national organization, Kids’ Chance of America. Kids’ Chance was established to create, assist and support programs that provide educational opportunities and scholarships for the children of workers who were disabled or killed in a workplace accident.

There are approximately 4 million workplace injuries in the United States annually, resulting in about one million disabling injuries and 5,000 deaths.1 In Nevada, workplace fatalities increased by 10 percent from 2014 to 2015.2

“As a leading workers’ compensation insurance carrier with a rich heritage in Nevada, we understand the catastrophic financial and emotional toll workplace injuries and fatalities can take on workers and their families,” said Jim Werbeckes, vice president of government and regulatory affairs, EMPLOYERS and a board member at Kids’ Chance of Nevada. “Through our partnership with Kids’ Chance of Nevada, we can help alleviate these burdens and give kids the resources and opportunities they need to pursue a higher education. We’re also calling for others in the Nevada business community to support this important cause and contribute to the Kids’ Chance of Nevada scholarship fund.”

The national Kids’ Chance of America scholarship fund, Planning for the Future, is an all-inclusive program designed to take some of the financial burden of college off of families affected by workplace injuries. The fund’s goal is to give students the tools they need for success in the workplace as well as enable them to make a difference in their own lives as well as the lives of others. Nationally, the scholarship fund has assisted more than 6,000 students in pursuing their education goals.

Kids’ Chance Awareness Week

To bring awareness to the national scholarship fund, Kids’ Chance of America is celebrating Awareness Week, November 13-17, 2017. Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval also has proclaimed it Kids’ Chance Awareness Week.

In celebration, and to introduce the organization to the Nevada business community and future scholarship recipients, Kids’ Chance of Nevada is hosting a welcome mixer at The Martini, 1205 S. Fort Apache Rd, Las Vegas, NV on November 15, 5:30 – 8:00 pm.
