Lotridge said witnesses indicated they saw four black men in their late teens or early 20s run from the Traverse. One was found nearby, detained, questioned and released, he said. Two others, both passengers, remained at large late Tuesday.

As the deputy drove in that man's direction, he ran away along the north side of the high school building, Lotridge said.
"As the helicopter turned around, the subject was no longer visible," he said. "Ground units arrived in the area within seconds and found an open door in a loading dock area. Though no officers saw the subject enter the school, it was reasoned it was likely the subject entered through the open door and was possibly inside
Officers surrounded the school, evacuated about 20 employees, then searched the school but didn't find anyone, Lotridge said.
During the search, police could be seen standing guard outside each entrance.
A police officer slowly rode his motorcycle across the front lawn toward the east side of the school. Another officer exited his car, then quickly strapped on a bullet-proof vest.

The sheriff's office continues to investigate the accident, Lotridge said.
