June 14--A fund has been set up at Citizens National Bank for a local firefighter who recently lost his wife in a car accident.
Vince Vincent, a senior firefighter with the Meridian Fire Department, lost his wife, Angie, in a single-vehicle car accident in Clarke County on Monday.
Fire Marshall Jason Collier said as soon as his fellow firefighters heard the news, they wanted to do something to help Vincent.
"We are just one big old family and when one of us is hurting, we all feel the pain," Collier said. "We gather around and support each other. We just want to be there to take care of things for him so the family can be together, without worrying about taking care of expenses."
Collier said Vincent has been a fireman for a long time and has helped many people throughout his career.
"I think it is an opportunity to help someone who has helped so many others," Collier said. "They didn't have any life insurance, so they weren't prepared for an emergency of this magnitude. With three kids between the two of them, and the costs from funeral arrangements, we knew we needed to do something to help."
An account has been set up at Citizens National Bank for anyone wishing to donate. Checks can be made out to Vince Vincent, for any amount, and dropped off at any Citizens National Bank location.
