CMS Extends Transitional Plans Through 2018

DES MOINES, Iowa, Feb. 24 -- The Iowa Department of Commerce's Insurance Division issued the following news release:

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced yesterday (https://www.cms.gov/CCIIO/Resources/Regulations-and-Guidance/Downloads/Extension-Transitional-Policy-CY2018.pdf) that, if permitted by applicable state authorities, health insurers will be allowed to continue transitional policies through calendar year 2018. The Iowa Insurance Division, Iowa's applicable state authority, will allow this extension through 2018.

"Over 115,000 Iowans had transitional plans in 2016 that were allowed to be extended for 2017. This is welcome news from CMS for those Iowans that like their plan and will help provide some stability for them going into 2018," Iowa Insurance Commissioner Doug Ommen said.
