Church of Satan finds Trumps spiritual adviser a bit kooky, but is willing to work with her

New York Daily News, The (NY)

Jan. 27--The Church of Satan thinks it can work with President Trump's fiery spiritual adviser.

On Friday, video emerged of Florida-based pastor Paul White demanding in a sermon earlier this month, "In the name of Jesus, we command all Satanic pregnancies to miscarry right now."

Rather than taking the apparent call for supernatural abortions personally, the Church of Satan reached out to White, suggesting they could work together toward a common goal.

"We were very pleased this weekend to learn that you had recently publicly prayed for God to induce miscarriages in Satanic pregnancies," church leader Lucien Greaves wrote to White in an open letter posted on the church's website.

"At a time in which Satanists have had to fight desperately to retain their bodily autonomy in the face of increasingly restrictive anti-abortion laws, we are glad that your 'logic' must necessarily lead you to support unrestricted abortion access for Satanists seeking to end unwanted pregnancies!"

The 54-year-old, N.Y.-based institution's missive to White included a mailing address where the Florida-based pastor and her supporters could fund abortions through the Satanic Temples Religious Reproductive Rights Campaign in Salem, Mass.

White issued her call for supernatural abortion of "satanic pregnancies" during a spirited Jan. 5 rant that also railed against "witchcraft," "the enemy" and "strange winds sent against" entities including herself and President Trump.

The Church of Satan suggested she might want to tone down the heated rhetoric a bit.

"Asking your imaginary friend to terminate someone else's pregnancy against their will is pretty messed up," the devil's advocates responded on Twitter Saturday.

White said her comments were not meant to be taken literally and called criticisms of her words "a disingenuous attempt to use words out of context for political gain" in a Sunday tweet.

The Church of Satan also suggested over the weekend that "religion has no place in politics."

White, like Trump, has been married three times. Her current husband plays keyboards in the band Journey.

The TV evangelist practices "prosperity theology."
