California Department of Insurance Holds Hearing Looking Into How Automobile Insurance Groups Affect Driver Premiums

LOS ANGELES, California, Sept. 17 -- The California Department of Insurance issued the following news release:
California Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara has ordered the first fact-finding hearing in the Department's history on use of 'affinity group' discounts. This investigatory hearing will gather evidence and ascertain the facts regarding how insurers' use of occupational, educational, and other groups for setting automobile rates affects insurance premiums for different classes of California drivers, such as drivers with different income levels, drivers with differing levels of educational attainment, and other criteria.
