BRIEF: Twin Cities restaurant group adding service charge to cover health insurance for workers
Saint Paul Pioneer Press (MN)
July 26--Kim Bartmann restaurants will be adding 3 percent to your bill before the end of the month, in the form of a service charge.
The charge, which will show up on your bill starting July 28 when you dine at Barbette, Bryant-Lake Bowl, Pat's Tap, Red Stag Supperclub, Tiny Diner and The Bird, will help cover the cost of offering insurance to staff members.
Bartmann has offered health insurance to staff members since 1993. Staff members pay 50 percent of the premium, and the rest is covered by the restaurant.
"Health insurance has been going up 20 percent to 30 percent a year for the last few years, and we can't continue to sustain those increases," Bartmann said in a news release. "Rather than just raising prices, we want to be transparent about our costs. We think our customers will appreciate knowing that our workers have good quality, affordable health insurance."
