BRIEF: Deltona to host hurricane preparedness seminar
News-Journal (Daytona Beach, FL)
May 05--With this year's hurricane season expected to be a busy one, Deltona is hosting a seminar on preparedness to make sure its residents are ready for whatever comes their way.
Speaking at the seminar--set for 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. on May 15 at City Hall, 2345 Providence Blvd.--will be Bryan Karrick, chief meteorologist with News 13, and Steve Roland, a city building official in the construction services division.
Karrick, who has 13-plus years of experience in forecasting, will talk about how hurricanes and other severe weather systems are formed and how residents should prepare, city spokesman Lee Lopez said.
Roland will address what residents should do to protect their property and what they'll need to do in the aftermath if their property sustained any damage.
There will be hurricane-survival kits and other items useful in an emergency on display so residents can get an idea of what they may want to stock up on, Lopez said.
