Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance Company Expands into Marine, Transport & Logistics Liability, Appoints Product Line Leaders in New Brisbane Office

BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance Company (BHSI) today announced that it has begun underwriting Marine, Transport & Logistics Liability Insurance in Australia and New Zealand, and appointed Barton Phillips, Head of Transport and Logistics, and Laetitia Roney, as Manager of Transport & Logistics Liability Insurance. Both are based in BHSI’s new office in Brisbane.

BHSI is focusing its new marine, transport & logistics liability capabilities on key segments, including: port/terminal operators, transport/logistics operators, rail operators, cargo handling facilities, charterer’s liability, stevedoring operators, warehouseman’s liability, marina operators and ship repairers.

Barton comes to BHSI with more than two decades of experience in the insurance industry. He was most recently National Manager, Marine & Transport Liability Insurance, at Zurich Australia (formerly as Associated Marine). Before that, he was Managing Director of Thomas Miller Australasia, the manager of the TT Club in Australia & New Zealand. He is a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland, and a Member of the Maritime Law Association of Australia and New Zealand.

Barton holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Queensland and a Master of Laws (Maritime) from the University of Southampton, UK. He also holds a Diploma of the Securities Institute of Australia.

Laetitia joins BHSI after 22 years in the marine insurance industry. She was most recently Underwriting Manager, Marine & Transport Liability, at Zurich Australia and Manager, Commercial Marine Liability Insurance, at Associated Marine. She holds a Graduate Certificate in Maritime and Logistics Management, and is a Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF).
