NEW YORK (AP) _ Assurant Inc. (AIZ) on Tuesday reported third-quarter net income of $7.3 million.
On a per-share basis, the New York-based company said it had net income of 14 cents. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, came to $1.01 per share.
The results beat Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of four analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1 per share.
The insurer posted revenue of $2.55 billion in the period. Its adjusted revenue was $2.58 billion, missing Street forecasts. Five analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $2.62 billion.
Assurant shares have declined 14% since the beginning of the year, while the S&P's 500 index has declined 19%. In the final minutes of trading on Tuesday, shares hit $134.70, a decline of 17% in the last 12 months.
