As Trumpcare Push Ramps Up, Democrats Hold Scott Wagner Accountable for Hiding From His Support of Disastrous Bill

HARRISBURG, Pa., July 13 -- The Pennsylvania Democratic Party issued the following news:

Today, as Senate Republicans ramp up their plans to bring Trumpcare to a vote, Democrats held a press conference to hold Scott Wagner accountable for refusing to answer questions about his support for this devastating bill. Northampton County Democrats, led by Chairman Matt Munsey held a press conference outside of Wagner's tour stop to get the answers Pennsylvanians deserve.

"Scott Wagner needs to stop hiding from his support of this bill and tell the people of the commonwealth why he wants to increase health care costs for the more than five million Pennsylvanians with a pre-existing condition like cancer or pregnancy and kick seniors out of nursing homes like Northampton County's Gracedale just down the street," said Chairman Matt Munsey. "The governor of the commonwealth will have serious decisions to make about health care and Scott Wagner owes the people of Pennsylvania answers. These are real people's lives and Scott Wagner's support for this bill is absolutely shameful."

Trumpcare will increase health care costs for hard working Pennsylvanians and kick 22 million people off their insurance. People with pre-existing conditions will lose coverage, seniors will be forced out of their nursing homes, women will have their access to care cut off, and people suffering from the disease of addiction will not get the treatment they need.

This bill ends Medicaid as we know it. Medicaid expansion has provided health care to over 715,000 Pennsylvanians, including over 215,000 Pennsylvanians who are struggling with a substance use disorder.

"As Republican governors throughout the country are denouncing this bill, why won't Wagner answer for his support of legislation that will be devastating for Pennsylvanians?" asked Chairman Munsey. "If Scott Wagner wants to be governor, then he owes the people of Pennsylvania an explanation."

This bill would place a huge burden on states and force governors to make difficult choices in order to maintain health care for the millions at risk of losing access to care.

If this bill becomes law, the governor of Pennsylvania will have serious decisions to make about the state of health care in the commonwealth and Scott Wagner needs to stop hiding from his support for this bill if he wants to be the head of our commonwealth.
