Amistad offers free help with Consumer Health Insurance Marketplace open enrollment [El Paso Times]

Amistad is offering free help navigating the Consumer Health Insurance Marketplace during the open enrollment period, which is available through Jan. 15.

The Consumer Health Insurance Marketplace and Enrollment Services provides comprehensive health plans that offer doctor visits, emergency care, preventive care, hospital care and prescription drugs for people who currently do not have health insurance coverage.

"With the new variants and COVID-19 cases on the rise again, it is a critical time to find and enroll in a comprehensive health insurance plan," David Gomez, lead navigator, said in a news release. "We understand it can be a daunting process, but our trained CHIMES Navigators can help answer questions and guide individuals every step of the way."

The nonprofit said that according to HealthCare.gov:

** This year, the American Rescue Plan provides greatly improved financial assistance, which can significantly lower people's premiums.

** Four out of five people will be able to find plans for $10 per month or less after newly expanded financial assistance.

** With the new law, millions more qualify for tax incentives that lower their premiums.

Navigators are available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday through Jan. 15 to take walk-ins and scheduled appointments at Amistad at 3210 Dyer St..

Also, Navigators will be providing information and enrollment services:

** Wednesday, Dec. 29: 1-5 p.m.: Richard Burges Public Library, 9600 Dyer St.

** Thursday, Dec. 30: 1-5 p.m.: Dorris Van Doren Public Library, 551 E. Redd Road

** Jan. 3-7: 1-5 p.m.: Irving Schwartz Public Library, 1865 Dean Martin Drive

** Jan. 3-7: 1-5 p.m.: Dorris Van Doren Public Library, 551 E. Redd Road

** Jan. 7: 8 a.m.-1 p.m.: Valle Bajo Community Library, 7380 Alameda Ave.

** Jan. 10-13: 1-5 p.m., Judge Marquez Public Library, 610 N. Yarbrough Drive

** Jan. 10-13: 1-5 p.m., Esperanza Moreno Public Library, 12480 Pebble Hills Blvd.
