A very pregnant Zephyr Teachout launches campaign ad featuring her own sonogram

Sept. 10--Zephyr Teachout isn't afraid to get personal in her bid to be the next attorney general.

The candidate, who is expecting her first child next month, launched a campaign ad this weekend featuring footage of her getting a sonogram in a doctor's office.

"What does his or her future look like? Do we save our democracy? Do we flip Congress? Does Robert Mueller indict Trump?" she asks in a voice over, over footage of the fetus and the sound of his or her heartbeat.

"I don't want to wait and see," she continues. "It's why I sued President Trump the week he was inaugurated, wrote the book on corruption and took on the Albany machine, and rallied against pharmaceutical and insurance companies for putting profits over people."

After the camera pans from the sonogram screen to her face, Teachout addresses the camera directly.

"I'm Zephyr Teachout and you've never seen an attorney general like me -- and neither have they," she quips.

Teachout, 46, has previously said she'd like to normalize the presence of a pregnant candidate on the campaign trail. The title of the video on her Youtube page reads: "Being a parent and being in power shouldn't be in conflict for a woman anymore than they're for a man."

The ad is digital-only, her campaign said.

Teachout is in a four-way Democratic primary race for attorney general against Public Advocate Letitia James, Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney and former Gov. Cuomo aide Leecia Eve, In recent weeks, Teachout's bid has gained momentum -- leaving her the target of attacks from the other three candidates in recent televised and radio debates.

Teachout picked up another major endorsement Monday, this time from presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders -- who backed her and Councilman Jumaane Williams, who is running for lieutenant governor on the same slate as Teachout.

Sanders conspicuously did not endorse the third prong of their slate -- Cynthia Nixon, who is challenging Cuomo for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination. Sanders has previously appeared alongside Cuomo to tout his initiative to make public colleges free for certain students.

But Sanders, an independent, has also had differences with Cuomo -- and argued the Democratic National Committee should not have endorsed Cuomo while he's in the midst of a competitive primary.
