Silverman highlighted some of the reasons A.M. Best has a stable outlook on the U.K. life sector.

“One factor is that A.M. Best sees a good growth outlook for defined contribution pensions and annuities,” said Silverman. “A.M. Best believes that there are strong economic drivers for that growth, which are offset by a narrow product range, regulatory uncertainty and a likely increase in investment risk.”

He also highlighted that focusing on these products is good because they are growth products, but “there are fragilities to the business model, which arise from the fact that there is a diminished retail presence.”
