Jan. 27--COLUMBIA, S.C. -- A Cordova, SC, woman was sentenced in federal court Monday on charges of Conspiracy to Commit Health Care Fraud, according to U.S. Attorney Bill Nettles.
A judge sentenced Malentha Robinson-Taylor, 46, to 51 months in prison and ordered her to pay approximately $126,000 in restiution.
Nettles said Robinson-Taylor and her husband , recruited individuals to give them their Blue Cross Blue Shield Policy numbers while the two worked for an Orangeburg-based dentist.
Robinson-Taylor submitted claims as if the individuals had been seen by her employer even though they had not. Nettles said checks were sent directly to the individuals for services they had not received and they in turn split the money with Robinson-Taylor and her husband.
According to Nettles, insurance paid approximately $368,000 of the $800,000 in claims submitted. Robinson-Taylor kept approximately $126,000 of the amount paid by insurance.
