Underwater Intervention 2014

Underwater Intervention 2014 will be held February 11 to 13 at the Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. The conference and exhibition is a nonprofit event put on by the Association of Diving Contractors International and the ROV Committee of the Marine Technology Society.

Underwater Intervention's sponsoring organizations are nonprofit, membership-supported, professional organizations. Proceeds from the annual conference go back to member-driven programs that support education and training, provide scholarships and support safety initiatives throughout the underwater operations industries.

History

Until the early 1990s, the Association of Diving Contractors International and the ROV Committee of the Marine Technology Society hosted separate conferences: ROV Intervention and the Diving Symposium. The increased common ground between the commercial diving and ROV industries created an atmosphere ripe for a merger of the two conferences.

In 1993, the first Underwater Intervention conference and exhibition was hosted in San Diego, California. Now, 22 years later, Underwater Intervention has grown to encompass more industries in addition to commercial diving and ROVs, including manned submersibles, instruments and sensors, sonar and acoustics, ocean engineering, marine salvage and shipwrecks, AUV and UUV Technology, deepwater field development, decommissioning of structures and marine education.

Last January, Underwater Intervention was held in New Orleans and covered more than 26,000 square feet of exhibit space. It hosted more than 2,500 attendees from more than 39 countries, and the technical program offered 150 presentations from industry leaders throughout the world.

Attendees

Underwater Intervention caters to oil and gas industry professionals, senior decision makers from international and regional underwater operators, underwater operations service and equipment suppliers, ocean engineering and construction companies, commercial diving and ROV contractors, underwater operations consultants, engineers, project managers and purchasing agents.

Technical Program Topics

More technical program subject offerings have been added for Underwater Intervention 2014 to satisfy the needs of various underwater industries, such as training/retention issues and regulatory changes.

Topics for the upcoming conference include commercial diving, work-class ROVs, small and micro-ROVs, manned submersibles, instruments and sensors, marine education/ academia, decommissioning, ocean exploration and research technology, deepwater field development and marine archaeology.

2014 Highlights

The awards dinner will take place Tuesday, February 11, at the Hampton Inn & Suites located across the street from the Morial Convention Center. Special guest Lew Dennis of Chevron Corp. (San Ramon, California) will be the keynote speaker.

Special features for Underwater Intervention 2014 include a demonstration tank, sponsored by EPIC Divers & Marine (Belle Chasse, Louisiana), a market showcase for additional product demonstrations, and an industry author booth that highlights recent books, which will have authors present for book signings.

There will also be a U.S. Gulf Coast Diving Safety Work Group, a hyperbaric medical refresher workshop and safety environmental management system workshop.

Registration

Conference registration is open and online at www.un derwaterintervention.com. Early registration discounts and society member discounts apply through January 8, 2014.
