Symetra Strengthens Commitment to TPAs with Two Key Hires

Business Wire, Inc.

BELLEVUE, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Symetra Life Insurance Company has hired two veteran medical stop-loss insurance professionals to cultivate new and support ongoing relationships with third-party administrators (TPAs). TPAs help employers make decisions around employee benefit plans in addition to managing benefits programs on an employer’s behalf.

Symetra’s two new directors of TPA Markets will advance the company’s strategy of expanding its stop-loss distribution network and managed care capabilities. Both are from R.E. Moulton, Inc., the former underwriting affiliate of American United Life Insurance Company (AUL). Symetra acquired the renewal rights for stop-loss policies issued by AUL in July 2011.

Judy VerPlanck-Elliott joins Symetra following an 18-year career at R.E. Moulton, where she most recently served as vice president of claims. She previously worked at Northshore International Insurance Services as manager of the medical excess facility. She started her career in Prudential’s Group Health Claims division.

David Guy was producer and vendor relationship manager at R.E. Moulton. In this role, he was responsible for providing sales and service support to TPA partners. Before that, Guy held a variety of claims positions at Health Reinsurance Management Partnership, Aetna Student Health and Northshore International Insurance Services.

“Judy and Dave are known in the TPA community for their knowledge of the stop-loss business and their collaborative approach with producers,” said Marien Diaz, stop-loss claims leader in Symetra’s Benefits Division. “As we work to deepen our relationships with TPA partners and support the personalized services they provide to employers, Judy and Dave will be at the forefront of this effort.”

VerPlanck-Elliott and Guy are based in Boston.
