Smoking Cessation Video Helps Doctors Encourage Patients to Quit

PR Web

Leesburg, FL (PRWEB) June 27, 2012

Doctors now have a new, dynamic tool to use in their efforts to get patients to stop smoking. Award-winning video production company Apple Seed Marketing (http://www.AppleSeedMarketing.com) has produced a thought-provoking video, "11 minutes," which practitioners can use as part of an interactive face-to-face consultation with their patients.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, smoking costs the nation $96 billion annually in health-related costs. Tobacco use is also the leading preventable cause of death. It has been reported that every cigarette reduces a smoker’s life by 11 minutes.

Beginning in 2011, Medicare, Medicaid and some private insurers expanded coverage of tobacco counseling for any smoker who wishes to quit. The customizable video includes a four minute (short interaction) and an 11 minute (long interaction) version that educates patients about the importance of eliminating tobacco use. After viewing the video, the patient completes a questionnaire which the practitioner reviews and provides additional encouragement during the in-office discussion.

Practitioners can utilize the smoking cessation video as an aid during patient consultations and can submit for reimbursement payment to Medicare, Medicaid and some private insurers.

Gulf Coast Spine Institute (http://www.GulfCoastSpine.net), with offices in Brooksville, Hernando and The Villages, supports physicians being more proactive about encouraging patients to stop smoking.

“Smoking impedes on a person’s ability to heal after surgery which can impact our efforts to help patients improve their quality of life,” said Laura Henderson, Gulf Coast Spine Institute practice manager. “Our success rate can depend on the patient’s ability to recover which is why we want to eliminate whatever factors, such as smoking, that can inhibit that desired result.”

Apple Seed Marketing, a division of Hometown Health TV, LLC, developed the smoking cessation educational video as part of its own commitment to healthier lifestyles and produced it in such a way so that it can be customizable with the medical practice’s logo.

The practitioner’s investment for the complete turn-key package is $895 and includes the logo customization, the short and long version of the video, complementary patient questionnaires and 10 DVD- copies. The “11 Minutes” smoking cessation package can be ordered nationwide by calling (352) 267-7247. The video is available for preview on You Tube.
