SVFD car show breaks record

Aug. 22--The annual Springdale Volunteer Fire Department car, motorcycle and tractor show was held Saturday at Springdale Elementary School.

The 2014 car show broke the all-time record with 187 vehicles.

Adam Payne, Springdale Volunteer Fire Department Chief said, "I would like to thank all who came out and brought their cars; some from as far as three hours away." He added, "We had beautiful weather and beautiful cars and this show is our biggest fundraiser of the year. I'd like to thank the community for this great support I'd also like to take a moment to thank Bill and Pat Smith. Bill has been a supporter of the car show for many years now and I'd like to thank him for all his hard work because without him this show wouldn't be as successful as it is."

Just about about any make of car was seen at the show including Chevrolet, Dodge, Ford, Plymouth, MG, Volkswagen's, Hondas, Harleys, rat rods and many other antique and classic vehicles. Hundreds of trophies were given out but one special award is given out each year and that is the Fireman's Choice Award. This year the award went to Lane Jones in a 1986 Chevrolet K-10 pick up.

Although the show is growing at a fast pace, the department plans to keep the show at the current location until they have no other choice. The Springdale VFD Car Show continues to be one of East Tennessee's best and with the support of the many sponsors and volunteers it will continue to draw thousands of people into Claiborne County. Not only does the show help the department to fund its own existence but it also brings much needed revenue to the county.

"I'd like to invite everyone to support their local VFD's and take part in their fund raising efforts as it is vital to their survival," Payne added.

The show was sponsored by Five Point Insurance Company, Reece Logging, P&P Grading, Johnny Parker Body Shop, Matt Compton State Farm Insurance, Sandifur Auto Repair, First Century Bank, C&M Trophy, Extreme Towing, Kim Reese Register of Deeds and Green Insurance Agency.
