Register Now for Best’s Review Webinar Examining The Impact of Insurance Impairments
OLDWICK, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- A.M. Best Co., publisher of Best’s Review magazine, will present a webinar titled, “The Impact of Insurance Impairments on Agents, Brokers, Directors and Officers,” on Thursday, July 1, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. EDT. Registration for the event is free online at www.ambest.com/impairment10.
According to A.M. Best’s annual studies of impaired and insolvent insurers, the past two years have been among the worst in decades for weaker insurers. Sparked by a rise in reported and identified insurance impairments and insolvencies, the principal editor of A.M. Best’s annual reports on insurance impairments, Carole Ann King, will lead a panel discussion with liability experts in this one-hour webinar.
In 2009, 30 insurers were identified as impaired. In addition, totals continued to rise for previous years as impairments and insolvencies were identified and confirmed. Impaired insurers cut across most areas of insurance, including property/casualty and life/health. The toll in recent years has included insurers marketing homeowners, auto, title, medical and dental liability and other lines of insurance coverage. Types of insurers included stock, mutuals, risk retention groups and others. Today’s unforgiving legal and regulatory environment means the fallout affects agents, brokers, directors and officers.
The webinar will examine what’s driving the rise in impairments and insolvencies, the gulf between strong and weak insurers, and the impact of failure on insurance professionals. A.M. Best’s annual report on property/casualty impairments is due to be released mid-June. A similar report detailing life/health impairments is set for release shortly thereafter.
Webinar speakers will include:
- R. Mark Keenan, Attorney, Anderson Kill & Olick
- Robert T. Sargent, Executive Vice President, Mercator Risk Services
- Tracy Forst, Executive Vice President, Aon Corp.
- Carole Ann King, Managing Senior Business Analyst, A.M. Best Company
