Police chase through four counties ends in Weber

April 22--FARR WEST -- Two suspects are in custody after they led police on a chase beginning in Summit County and ending in Weber County.

The incident began after a Summit County Sheriff's Deputy attempted to pull over a vehicle that was going 120 mph westbound on Interstate 80 in Parley's Canyon.

After the driver refused to stop, Utah Highway Patrol troopers picked up the chase and dispatched helicopter support to follow the suspect vehicle which was still going an excess of 100 mph northbound on Interstate 15, endangering other vehicles, UHP Lt. Chris Simmons said.

Troopers attempted to spike the vehicle as it passed Farmington and Layton. A successful attempt was made near 1200 South in Ogden eventually backing off the chase and allowing the helicopter to pursue as the car slowed.

The vehicle pulled off the freeway at 400 North and went westbound on Pioneer Road, finally coming to a stop at about 3650 West.

The two suspects fled on foot and attempted to hide in a nearby barn, still being monitored by the helicopter which relayed their movements to ground units. The suspects were eventually cornered and taken into custody without further incident.

Simmons said a civilian vehicle was unintentionally spiked in Weber County and the owner will compensated through UHP's risk management.

Frank Eggett was inside his home reading when the suspects pulled over and ran onto his property, attempting to hide in his barn house.

"I'm glad these group of guys came so fast before who knows what would have happened" Eggett said.

K-9 Units were dispatched to search the area after intial reports indicated the suspects had a firearm, however Simmons said they didn't find anything.

The two men are wanted felons from Colorado. It was intially reported that they were escaped convicts, but Simmons said that is not the case. Their names have not yet been released.
