ST. PAUL, Minn., June 23 -- St. Paul Public Schools issued the following news release:
Megan Olivia Hall, a teacher at Open World Learning Community (http://open.spps.org/), has been awarded the 2015 California Casualty Award for Teaching Excellence.
Hall, who teaches life sciences to grades 6-12, is one of 39 educators who will receive the honor next February at the National Education Association (http://www.nea.org/) (NEA) Foundation's Salute to Excellence in Education Gala in Washington D.C.
It's not the first time Hall has been honored for her teaching endeavors. Hall was the 2013 Minnesota Teacher of the Year, awarded by Education Minnesota (http://www.educationminnesota.org/).
For her latest honor, Hall was nominated by NEA state affiliates, according to the group. Each educator will receive a $650 award, and five finalists will be selected for a $10,000 award.
One finalist will be named the nation's top educator and receive an additional $25,000 at the gala. The NEA Foundation and the National Education Association jointly present the awards. The insurance company California Casualty is partnering with the groups for the event.
"We give these awards annually to honor and promote excellence in education and to elevate the profession. Educators like these are critical to their students' academic success, and they deserve national recognition." said Harriet Sanford, president and CEO of the NEA Foundation, in a news release.
