New Waterloo House a Victory for PENETRON Technology

Perched prominently on Hamilton Bay on Pitts Bay Road in Hamilton, the capital of Bermuda, the elegant new Waterloo House offers almost 90,000 square feet of office space and seven luxury penthouse apartments with panoramic views across Hamilton Harbor. The five-story building also has underground parking and eight new boat slips in the harbor directly in front of the building.

The new hotel is right around the corner from the heart of the financial and insurance district, close to the many historic and cultural sites found on Bermuda. Due to the building’s prime location near the center of Hamilton, careful attention was given to incorporating both modern and traditional Bermudian architectural features in the design by Botelhowood Architects. There are also eco-friendly, sustainable aspects incorporated to minimize energy consumption.

Staying Dry on the Harbor
“Because of the hotel’s location right on the harbor, ensuring permanent protection from seawater was a prime concern in the below ground structure – and for the ground floor-level doors located below or just above sea level,” adds Bill Morrison, CEO of SAL, the PENETRON representative in Bermuda.

PENETRON ADMIX was used to treat approximately 3,000 cubic yards of concrete, mainly for the building foundation and basement structures. An ideal “permeability-reducing admixture for hydrostatic conditions (PRAH),” as defined in the “Report on Chemical Admixtures for Concrete” (ACI 212.3R-10 / January 2011, published by the American Concrete Institute), PENETRON ADMIX enabled the structure to resist seawater ingress under the higher levels of water pressure found below ground.
