Union County received $225K refund for health care claim surplus

LEWISBURG — Union County received a refund of $225,773 in claim surplus funds for its 2025 plan year.

The Union County commissioners at Tuesday’s public meeting approved the Pennsylvania County Health Insurance Purchasing Cooperative (PCHIP) to keep the claim surplus funds in the county’s cooperative reserve account.

Finance Director Jeffrey McClintock said the county is self-insured and receives a reimbursement if the estimate is higher than what the county spent on health care.

The funds can be used for health care shortages or “anything the commissioners elect to use the funds for,” McClintock said.
