Mutual Benefit Group Names O’Brien Senior Vice President of Insurance

Kevin O’Brien joined Mutual Benefit Group on January 2, 2014, as senior vice president of insurance.

O’Brien comes to Mutual Benefit with 22 years’ experience in the insurance industry. Immediately prior to joining Mutual Benefit, he had been employed with Foremost Insurance Group for seven years, where he held executive positions in both underwriting operations and sales and distribution. His various roles at Foremost included leadership of sales and underwriting operations for six states in the Mid-Atlantic Region, and leadership of all field underwriting operations for Zurich Small Business across the country. While with Zurich he increased total territory new business production by 40% in 2009, 63% in 2010, and 73% in 2011.

A 1988 graduate of Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA, O’Brien began his insurance career in 1988 as a commercial property underwriter for Aetna Life & Casualty. He went on to hold field leadership roles as well as home office management positions with Safeco and The Hartford, serving in such varied capacities as field sales manager, commercial underwriting manager, and select customer sales manager.

Mutual Benefit Group is a regional property/casualty insurance carrier headquartered in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, that has been providing coverage for personal autos, homes, and businesses since 1908. Only 44, or 1.6%, of the 2,736 carriers reviewed by Demotech received the STAR (TM) award based on their 2012 operating results. Mutual Benefit Group was also named to the list of Best Places to Work in Pennsylvania for 2013. This was the fifth consecutive year that the firm has qualified for the list.
