MedInformatix Practice Management and Electronic Medical Records Solution Enhances and Streamlines Grey Eye Care Claims, Billing and Scheduling Functions

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- When Grey Eye Care pc sought to replace its outdated server seven years ago, all of the practice's medical records were paper-based, resulting in an ever-expanding avalanche of inefficient claims, billing and medical reports that sometimes buried office personnel in a data blizzard that took weeks to bulldoze through. In procuring and installing new hardware, Grey Eye Care administrators also had the foresight to update the practice's software with MedInformatix' combined Practice Management (PM) and Electronic Medical Records (EMR) solution to sharpen and bring IT functions clearly into the 21st Century.

Since then, the 34-year-old practice has not looked back, regularly expanding the system's functionality to also encompass automated insurance claim remittance via an electronic clearinghouse link; generate custom reports, eliminating the need to enter and retype paper reports; automate easily navigable patient scheduling and billing; and, incorporate an automated prescription function that both prints for faxing and directly sends scripts electronically, accommodating individual pharmacies' technological capabilities.

"Our prior system was, in a nutshell, old. In addition to new hardware, we needed customizable software that addressed every facet of our practice," said Margaret Boucher, Grey Eye Care's office manager. "MedInformatix' PM and EMR solution, upon installation, provided us with the functionality we needed. It also has the flexibility to accommodate expanded capabilities to help our practice move forward as we continue to grow."

The system's clearinghouse link, for example, seamlessly handles Medicare vouchers as an electronic remittance tool, as compared to the slow dial up modem-based system that Grey Eye Care once used. The module creates custom reports and has done away with the need to pull individual records for claims submissions. "MedInformatix technicians installed the system on a Monday…it was fully up and running the following day, immediately eliminating the need to retype records and dramatically speeding insurance reimbursements," Boucher said.

MedInformatix PM and EMR solution is highly user friendly, significantly minimizing Grey Eye Care's initial and subsequent need for user training while providing high flexibility for scheduling and billing functions. Boucher terms MedInformatix' support team extremely helpful, even though Grey Eye Care has encountered very few issues with the software. As a testament to its dedication to customer service, the support team has also been willing and able to spend hours on the phone working with practice personnel addressing issues relating to non-MedInformatix software, she recounts.

On the scheduling side of the business, the solution enables practice personnel to easily move patient appointments around within the framework of a given day. As it relates to billing, it has transformed and automated what was once an arduous eight-hour per week process into a virtually paperless function that takes mere minutes to complete. Notably, greater efficiencies have eliminated Grey Eye Care's requirement for a full-time records clerk, as the system automatically pulls up all medical records including individual patient information, prescriptions and dosages.

"I can't overstress the amount of money the MedInformatix system has saved our practice with respect to the cost of postage, paper and other materials, which can really add up," Boucher said. "At most, we currently mail only about three insurance claims per week, as opposed to being a fully paper-based practice seven years ago," she said, adding that insurers have been blown away by the system's capabilities during routine chart audits.

"We have incorporated, and will continue to implement each new version of the MedInformatix system as they become available," Boucher said. "We're satisfied customers."
