Holes-in-one

Seen those big 15-inch cups that some courses are experimenting with to make golf fun and speed up play? They don't have to bother with one on the 13th hole at Elmhurst Country Club, where two golfers played the hole as quickly as you can, needing just one shot apiece in a span of six days.

Jeff Gentile aced the 135-yard downhill hole while playing with Dave Rinaldi, Paul Refice and <person>Gary Hrobuchak.

Less than a week later, Ang Naro made the perfect shot, scoring a hole-in-one on No. 13 while playing with Tucker Sileo and Jim McGraw.

-- Al Milner used a 9-iron to score a hole-in-one on the 132-yard ninth hole at Glen Oak Country Club. Milner was playing with Mike Cordaro, Jay Hoyt and Matt Hoyt when he achieved greatness.

-- Joe Smith recorded his third hole-in-one on the seventh hole at Elkview Country Club, using a 7-iron on the 158 yard hole. Witnesses were Joe Daley, Chris Severs and Mike Walsh.

-- No. 7 at Elkview was also the lucky number for Andy Falonk, who used a 7-iron to produce an ace that was witnessed by Bill Dempsey, Del Riffe and Walt Zambrowski.

Lakeland G.C.

In the Missing Links league, Ellie Brown drained a pair of pars on her last two holes to finish with 41. Gloria McDonough had three pars, while Louise Franks needed just 13 putts in her round of 42 with 13 putts. Leslie Wertman holed a chip-in and Irene Barnoski birdied No. 5.

-- The Golden Putters, Dick Kelleher and Larry Schrader-, rallied to tie the Duffers, Fran Nealon and Shawn Pasternak, for the top position in the Lakeland Men's League. Kelleher shot an even-par 32 while Mark Fenton made an eagle on No. 7. And all Bob Long's practice is paying off. He shot 36 with an eagle on No. 9.

-- In Gin's League, Jeremy Choplosky and Dave Benedict are still on top of the field of 36 teams. Choplosky shot 30 last week, giving him a 31 average after six weeks of play. In previous play, substitute Bill Filbert bagged an eagle on No. 7.

-- Forty girls in the Thursday evening Happy Hackers group managed to play their captain-and-crew event without getting wet, with Lisa Armetta, Danielle Malone, Nancy Nealon and Karin Schaffer serving up a win. Mamie Eckenrode's chip for birdie on No. 1 had her team excited.

-- Olyphant'sGeri Washkuch toils regularly on the course, with her last two visits paying off on the final holle as she drove the 185-yard ninth and two-putted each time to finish with 40.

Marjon G.C.

Joe McHugh showed the way in the Senior League with a sparkling low net of 32. Don Bocklekamp and Bill Bond each had a birdie and Bond also had the low gross of 43 for the week. Glen Hopkins remained in first place and put three pars on the card.

-- They didn't exactly put a stranglehold on first, but for the first time in several weeks, Devon Brown and Gregg Ehrgood did what others could not, maintaining the top spot in the Thursday Night League, a point in front of Tom Guse and John Orloski, who stayed in second. New to third place are the teams of Larry McAndrew-Chuck Warrick and Julius Evanits-Carl Ives, two behind the frontrunners.

Two eagles were spotted on the golf course, with Joe Radick and Mike Sedock joining Rick Rosengrant as players to make eagles this season, two more than were made last year. Sedock took top honors in four categories: low gross (34), low net (shared with Brown at 31), most birdies (2); and an eagle (shared with Radick). Other birdie makers were John Orloski, Bob Gellesky and Jim Stanton. High individual points belonged to Al Bendinsky, as did most pars (7).

Sand Springs C.C.

The 12th annual Brian Forgione Memorial Golf Tournament will be played July 26 in Drums. Registration and payment is required by July 11 to secure a place in the tournament. For more information, visit the website: www.brianforgione.org.

Scott Greens G.C.

A sparkling 3-under par round by Jovanna Rusnak and John Killiany led them to a 2-up victory over Bev and Rich Burkhart, pulling the winners within a game of the lead for the first half in the Scramblers League.

Liz and Mike Sokoloski helped close that deficit by defeating the previously perfect team of Lynne and Hank Hewitt.

In other league action, Pat and Rich Bianchi are regaining last year's form as they defeated Sue and Tony Tolerico for their second straight win.

Kim Nudelman and John Boone remained in the mix with a tiebreaker win over Fran and Pat Jolley.

Tristan Hafty also had a solid week, shooting a 36. Jeff Cochran tabbed 43 and Dan Trego carded 44. League standings have Kochis in first, leading Trego by a point. Les Hand is third and Cochran is fourth.
