, BlumShapiro and PBI Financial Group announced today they will co-host the first-ever "JA Career Walk" in West Hartford Center for West Hartford'sHall High School students. The program, created by Junior Achievement of Southwest New England (JA), seeks to prepare students for the world of work and gain a better understanding of jobs in their community.

The program will allow students from Hall High School to visit a variety of businesses – banking, finance, marketing, insurance, retail and others in West Hartford Center on May 14. They include: BlumShapiro, PBI, Charles Schwab, Farmington Bank, Fathom, The Fremont Group, lululemon athletica, Max Restaurant and Munson's Chocolates.

"As a long-time supporter of Junior Achievement programs, BlumShapiro looks forward to co-hosting another JA-based career-awareness program that provides a real, face-to-face, inside look at leading businesses in our community," said Carl Johnson, Managing Partner of BlumShapiro.

During the JA Career Walk, two groups of ten Hall High School students will visit the West Hartford Center businesses. Each business will provide an overview and tour, and discuss the type of occupations they employ and qualities they look for when hiring people. Each visit will last 40 minutes. The entire program will run from 8:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. on May 14.

Students will start JA Career Walk at BlumShapiro headquarters at South Main Street in West Hartford where they will receive an orientation using the JA Job Shadow curriculum. The curriculum gives students an overview of the world of work and the skills needed to success on the job. The orientation will be hosted by Tom DeVitto, Chief Marketing Officer of BlumShapiro, and one of the developers of the inaugural JA Career Walk.

"I, along with my fellow BlumShapiro associates, have experienced the thrill of teaching JA courses inside the classrooms of Webster Hill School. Now we look forward to expanding our involvement with West Hartford students by opening our doors to the world of business here at BlumShapiro."

"Providing real-life business experiences to tomorrow's business leaders will provide an invaluable career day for all the students involved in the JA Career Walk. PBI is proud to be part of this new program," said Jason Gutcheon, a Partner at PBI and developer of the inaugural JA Career Walk
