HS roundup: Bucks topple Lakers

Sept. 10--BUCKFIELD -- Brian Casey scored on a booming shot from beyond the 18 in the opening minutes, and Buckfield untied the game with goals from Jeff Gotham and John Randolph in the second half as the Bucks outpaced Greenville, 3-1.

<person>Matt Mendes made 10 saves for Buckfield (2-0), while his counterpart Calvin Downey stopped five shots for Greenville (0-1).

Lisbon 1, Telstar 0

BETHEL -- Brady Boulet booted in an unassisted goal in the first half, and Greyhound netminder Ryley Austin made the lead stand up with seven saves as Lisbon eked out a 1-0 win on the road over Telstar.

Kellen True made 18 saves for the Rebels as Lisbon outshot the home team 33-11 in the game.

Edward Little 6, Lawrence 1

AUBURN -- Maslah Hassan netted 3 goals and added an assist as Edward Little rolled past Lawrence 6-1. The undefeated Eddies (2-0) started strong with five goals in the first half. Yusuf Adow had a goal and an assist, with Elijiah Rowe and Jacob Kyajohnian rounding out the scoring for EL.

Nick Blomerth scored for the Bulldogs (0-1-1) in the first half to make it 2-1 before EL pulled away.

Llewellyn Jenson made four saves for the Eddies. Coale Frechette stopped 10 shots for Lawrence.

Mountain Valley 10, Mt. Abram 0

RUMFORD -- Tucker Rowlins scored three goals and Rasmus Soegaard added two more as Mountain Valley ran away from Mt. Abram, 10-0.

Felix Promm, Curtis Steele, Andrew Arsenault, Jon Teaslee and Ryan Bennett also scored for the Falcons (2-0), while goalie Jacob Beauchesne stopped the only shot he faced in the contest.

Tristan Dyer had 10 saves for the Roadrunners (1-1).

Monmouth 5, Oak Hill 0

MONMOUTH -- Senior striker Hunter Richardson notched two goals and two assists to lead Monmouth to a 5-0 shutout over Oak Hill in MVC boys' soccer action Tuesday.

The Mustangs (1-1) were crisp on offense, making key passing plays, as Richardson netted the second and third goals to put Monmouth up 3-0 at the midpoint.

Goalie Kyle Fields made 23 saves for the Raiders (0-2), while goalie Kasey Smith collected the shutout win in net with four saves for Monmouth.

Leavitt 4, MCI 2

PITTSFIELD -- Senior forward Tyler Roux scored a hat trick to lead Leavitt to a 4-2 triumph over MCI in KVAC boys' soccer action Tuesday.

The Hornets (2-0) took an early comfortable lead with three unanswered goals in the first half.

The Mustangs (1-1) scored two in the second half to draw within striking distance. But, Roux managed to garner a breakaway with 10 minutes remaining for an insurance goal.

Goalie Aiden Peacock made 13 saves for MCI, while goalie Ben Fullerton made five stops to earn the win in net for Leavitt.

Girls' soccer

Mt. Blue 8, Skowhegan 2

SKOWHEGAN -- Eryn Doiron powered the Cougars with four goals and a pair of assists, and Hope Thompson added two more goals and an assist as Mt. Blue (1-0-1) took down Skowhegan 8-2 in girls' soccer.

Jocelyn Daggett and Haley Caswell also scored for the Cougars, who netted a pair of goals in the first five minutes of the game and never looked back. Lauren Guppy also notched an assist. Addie Schanz made a pair of saves, and Moesha Harrington added another for Mt. Blue.

Caitlyn Cushman and Michaela Lewis scored for Skowhegan (0-2), while Maddy Schroeder made 20 saves.

Edward Little 2, Lawrence 1

AUBURN -- Olivia Paione drove in the winning score with under a minute remaining as Edward Little topped Lawrence 2-1.

Jaime Coull broke a scoreless tie early in the second half, getting got Lawrence (1-1) on the board on a free kick from 15 yards out. Freshman Piper Norcross notted the score again with a goal just five minutes later.

Mariah Vaillancourt had an assist for the Eddies (2-0), and Molly Murray made five saves in the EL net.

Buckfield 0, Greenville 0

BUCKFIELD -- The Greenville and Buckfield girls' soccer teams were locked in a defensive battle Tuesday afternoon and finished with a double-overtime 0-0 tie.

Senior Molly Folly made 16 saves in net for the Lakers (0-0-1), while junior Olivia Dooley prevented 18 for the Bucks (1-0-1) as both teams have staved off any early season loss.

Field hockey

Oxford Hills 2, Edward Little 1

AUBURN -- Senior forward Abby Angevine recorded the eventual game-winning goal as Oxford Hills edged Edward Little 2-1 in KVAC field hockey action Tuesday afternoon.

Junior forward Brooke Lever found the back of the net before the half for Edward Little. And, the Red Eddies (2-1) had several opportunities in the scoreless second half. But, they came up short in the end.

Goalie Danica Nadeau made an impressive 31 saves for Edward Little, while goalie Shannon Fillebrown turned back 12 shots to earn the win in net for the undefeated Vikings (3-0).

Women's soccer

Bates 4, Southern Maine 0

LEWISTON -- Senior Dakota Donovan and first-year Julia Rosen each recorded a goal and an assist as Bates College blanked the University of Southern Maine 4-0 in NESCAC women's soccer action Tuesday afternoon.

Donovan scored for the Bobcats (2-1) in the first half, while sophomore Ana Urbina, Erin Shea and Rosen tallied the team's second-half goals.

The Bobcats held advantages over the Huskies (2-3) in shots (38-4), shots on goal (16-0), and corner kicks (9-2).

Goalie Marissa Temple made 12 saves for Southern Maine, while senior keeper Alyssa Morgosh earned the shutout in net for Bates.
