Firefly receives $56,000 donation

Staff ReportThe News-Examiner

Employees of CareSource, a nationally recognized nonprofit managed care entity, raised more than $56,000 for Firefly Children & Family Alliance to support an emergency aid fund for individuals and families.

In addition to raising funds for Firefly, CareSource employees participated in a volunteer day of service at the Gene Glick Family Support Center in Indianapolis. Volunteers packed emergency kits for individuals and families and spent time with children enrolled in the Firefly foster care program.

"More than 250 CareSource employees donated a portion of their paycheck to Firefly in 2025," said Dr. Cameual Wright, president of CareSource Indiana. "Firefly shares the whole-person, community-based approach that CareSource employees work to advance every day. I am also incredibly proud to see our team volunteer their time today for such a worthy cause."

Firefly is celebrating 175 years of service as it works to improve the lives of children and families in Indiana through 16 locations across the state, including Connersville, that provide child abuse prevention, home-based services, youth placement and recovery services.

The funding raised through the CareSource Workplace Giving campaign will support Firefly's $175,000 fundraising goal to establish a new emergency assistance fund for individuals and families who depend on their services. Funds will also support Firefly's 21Flats housing initiative for young adults, slated to open in summer 2026.

"Firefly is so grateful for the support of our friends at CareSource," said Tina Cloer, Firefly President and CEO. "Their generosity and passion for supporting our mission of empowering individuals to build stronger families and communities will make a difference in lives for generations to come."

CareSource is a nonprofit, nationally recognized managed care entity with over two million members. CareSource administers one of the largest Medicaid managed care plans in the U.S. In Indiana, CareSource serves Hoosiers with health insurance through the Healthy Indiana Plan, Hoosier Healthwise and Health Insurance Marketplace. As a mission-driven organization, CareSource is transforming health care with innovative programs that address the social drivers of health, prevention and access to care.

Firefly is a nonprofit that has supported Indiana families and adults for generations. Serving more than 50,000 families in all Indiana counties throughout 2024, we are focused on improving the lives of Hoosier children, families, and individuals alike. The families we serve often face difficult situations but seek to strengthen themselves with our help.
