GraceMed to open clinic at Oaklawn Elementary in Derby

June 30--GraceMed's latest school-based clinic, Oaklawn Family Clinic at Oaklawn Elementary in Derby, is slated to open July 21.

Dave Sanford, GraceMed CEO, says the clinic is part of a larger project to expand medical care to underserved areas. It's one of five facilities that GraceMed plans to open.

The Derby school district plans a dedication event for the clinic at 1:30 p.m.Aug. 21, Sanford said, and GraceMed will hold an open house at 5:30 p.m. that day.

The clinic includes six exam rooms and a dental operatory for preventive oral health and hygiene. Eventually, the clinic hopes to add behavioral health services at the site, Sanford said.

Construction started about one month ago for another clinic at Jardine Middle School, part of the Wichita school district. Sanford said they hope to have that site completed by January 2015.

Previously, GraceMed opened clinics at Gardiner, 1951 S. Laura, and Cloud, 1212 W. 25th St. North, and Dodge Literacy Magnet elementary schools in USD 259.

Although the clinics are based at schools, they "will see everybody who walks through our doors," Sanford said.

Once completed, the clinics will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. They will accept insurance, KanCare and Medicare, and they will have a sliding fee scale based on income for uninsured people.
