April 27--The following cases were heard March 31 by Beltrami District Judge Paul T. Benshoof:

Derek Daniel Barnes, 22, of Bemidji was sentenced for two counts of soliciting prostitution in a public place and third-degree DWI to 365 days in the Beltrami County Jail for the first soliciting charge of which 260 days are stayed for two years. He must serve 105 days and has been credited with 70 days time served. Barnes has been placed on two years supervised probation and must pay a $500 fine. Barnes was sentenced for the second count of soliciting and the DWI charge to 365 days in the Beltrami County Jail, concurrent with his first count of solicitation, which has been stayed for two years. He has been placed on two years supervised probation and must pay an additional $1,000 in fines.

The following cases were heard April 14 by Beltrami District Judge Shari R. Schluchter:

Devlin Gewitaygabawiquah Gabisag, 37, of Spooner, Wis., was sentenced for felony financial transaction card fraud to 57 days in the Beltrami County Jail and was credited with 57 days time served. He has been placed on five years supervised probation upon successful completion of which will result in a misdemeanor conviction. Gabisag must pay a $1,000 fine.

Leon Carl Edelman, 23, of Solway was sentenced for felony third-degree criminal sexual conduct to 48 months in the Minnesota Correctional Facility in St. Cloud which has been stayed for 15 years. Conditional release after confinement has been set at five years. Edelman must serve 45 days in the Beltrami County Jail and may do so on work release if eligible. He has been credited with three days time served. Edelman has been placed on 15 years supervised probation and must pay a $1,000 fine.

The following cases were heard April 18 by Beltrami District Judge Shari R. Schluchter:

Vanessa Stephanie Martinez, 24, of Puposky was sentenced for felony fifth-degree possession of heroin to 66 days in the Beltrami County Jail. She has been credited with 44 days time served. Martinez has been placed on five years supervised probation upon successful completion of which will result in a misdemeanor conviction. She must pay a $1,000 fine which may be done by way of community service.

James Craig Koutsky, 38, of Bemidji was sentenced for a felony no-contact order violation to 12 months and one day in the Minnesota Correctional Facility in St. Cloud which has been stayed for five years. Koutsky must serve 60 days in the Beltrami County Jail and my do so on work release if eligible. He has been credited with 29 days time served. Koutsky has been placed on five years supervised probation and must pay a $1,000 fine which may be done by way of sentence to serve and community service.

The following cases were heard April 21 by Beltrami District Judge Paul T. Benshoof:

Dustin Lewis Anderson, 25, of Bagley was sentenced for felony check forgery to 132 days in the Beltrami County Jail. Anderson has been credited with 88 days time served. He has been placed on five years supervised probation upon successful completion of which will result in a misdemeanor conviction. Anderson must pay a $1,000 fine which may be done by way of community service.

Gary Lee Bodien, 47, of Bemidji was sentenced for no insurance and driving after revocation to 365 days in the Beltrami County Jail for the no insurance charge which has been stayed for two years. Bodien has been placed on two years supervised probation and must pay a $300 fine. Bodien was sentenced to 90 days in the Beltrami County Jail which is stayed for one year for the driving after revocation charge. He has been placed on one year supervised probation and must pay a $50 fine.

Alaina Danae Prentice, 33, of Redby was granted a stay of adjudication for driving after cancellation. Prentice has been placed on two years court probation upon successful completion of which will result in a dismissal of the charge.

Frances Alvina Morris, 26, of Cass Lake was sentenced for giving peace officer false name to 365 days in the Beltrami County Jail of which 335 days are stayed for two years. Morris must serve 10 days and has been credited with seven days time served. She has been placed on two years court probation and must pay a $500 fine which may be done by way of community service.

Chris Clayton Madson, 52, of Bemidji was sentenced for felony check forgery to 52 days in the Beltrami County Jail. He has been credited with 35 days time served. Madson has been placed on five years supervised probation upon successful completion of which will result in a misdemeanor conviction. Madson must pay a $1,000 fine which may be done by way of sentence to serve. Madson has been ordered to pay $1,267.91 in restitution. Madson was sentenced for a second felony check forgery offense to 52 days in the Beltrami County Jail which he has been credited with 35 days time served. He has been placed on 10 years supervised probation upon successful completion of which will result in a misdemeanor conviction. Madson must pay a $50 fine which may be done by way of community service. He has been ordered to pay $2,619.33 in restitution for the second charge.

Tyler David Nelson, 20, of Bemidji was sentenced for check forgery to 365 days in the Beltrami County Jail of which 350 days are stayed for two years. Nelson must serve 15 days and has been credited with six days time served. He has been placed on two years supervised probation and must pay a $300 fine which may be done by way of community service.
