Boldman picks up time and temperature service

May 17--Be honest: how young were you when you memorized the time and temperature number, to have it since permanently burnt into your brain? The Portsmouth time and temperature system has bounced between ownerships for many years. American Savings Bank most recently owned the system, previously owned by Valli Chiropractic and so on and so on. The system has been recently purchased by Sean Boldman and Trinity Business Group, who have a few plans for the system in the foreseeable future.

American Savings Bank recently received an influx of callers, asking why the time and temperature system was down and not being fixed. The bank explained to callers that the system was simply not continued when it came time to sign contracts again, considering it an out-dated service. They weren't expecting the popularity of the system to be in demand so much in today's smart phone driven world.

Sean Boldman heard word of the line being down and instantly made calls to inquire about taking over.

"I got a hold of some people and asked if they were interested in helping me getting it back on and running again," Boldman said. "American Savings couldn't have been easier and more community minded to deal with, because within that day we began having that conversation."

Leigh Anne Smith, assistant vice president of community development at American Savings Bank, said that the bank ceased the contract with the company that provided the information and tech for the phone line to be able to invest more in the community in other ways. They recently spent a portion of community development budget to partner with Main Street Portsmouth to purchase new hanging baskets that were installed this week on Chillicothe Street.

"We were very happy to help Sean out and get the number transferred over to him. It was American Savings Bank's and now it is going to Sean and Trinity, who also owns American Family Insurance. We are still keeping it American and driven by local business," Smith said.

The computer that runs the service will be in Trinity Business Group's building, along with a thermometer on the roof that tracks the temperature. Other services are available, but increase the bill significantly and Boldman said he would like sponsors before he adds any other features. New features would include a forecast, a news reel and more. Boldman also has other ideas, such as partnering with the Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce to wrap up the call with a list of upcoming events in Scioto County. Boldman also said he would like to work with non-profits to give them time to give information on their events on the phone line.

To start off, the phone line (740-354-9876) will be simple and start off with an advertisement, tell the time, go into another advertisement and then wrap up with the temperature.
