BRIEF: Police release mug shot of man accused in fatal crash [El Paso Times, Texas]

Dec. 30--Police have released the mug shot of the man accused of causing the crash that killed two women Wednesday.

Miguel Vargas, 22, faces two counts of intoxicated manslaughter and two counts of intoxicated assault. He also has two outstanding municipal court warrants for driving without insurance and driving without headlights.

Vargas was arrested after he was treated at a hospital for injuries he received during the early-morning crash. He remains in the El Paso County Jail in lieu of a $250,000 bond.

The crash occurred at 2:23 a.m. on North Mesa Street, south of Mesa's intersection with Executive Center Boulevard.

Police said Vargas was driving a red 2005 Mitsubishi Lancer sedan south on North Mesa Street at a high speed when he lost control of the car near Executive Center Boulevard.

The car slid sideways, crashed through a rock wall, traveled over an embankment at 4171 N. Mesa, struck a tree trunk and an office building and then caught fire.

Two of Vargas' passengers, Kim Araujo, 23, and Idaly Reyes, 19, died at the scene.

Two other passengers, Stacy Reyes, 18, and Nefi Armendariz, 20, were taken to University Medical Center, where they remain in critical condition today, hospital officials said.
