At Home opening in Orange Park

Roger Bull

<tr>

By Roger Bull
Proquest LLC

At Home will open its Orange Park store Thursday in the former Super Target at 1919 Wells Road. Ribbon-cutting will be held at 4:30 p.m.

The Garden Ridge company bought the building earlier this year for $5.6 million but is calling all its stores At Home rather than using the old Garden Ridge name.

The store, which sells home goods, crafts and decor, will use only 126,000 of the 175,000 square feet and plans to try to lease the remaining space. It hired 24 full- and part-time employees.

The only Garden Ridge store in Northeast Florida was on Monument Road in Jacksonville. But that closed in 2011 when the Jacksonville Kennel Club bought the building to open the state's largest poker room there.

A company spokeswoman said all 76 stores in the chain should be rebranded to At Home by the holiday shopping season.

The home goods market is certainly getting busier in Orange Park. Last week, Old Time Pottery announced that it would open in the Kmart building on Blanding Boulevard next summer. The Kmart is currently being liquidated, and closing is expected next month.

By the way, other grand opening dates coming soon: Trader Joe's in Jacksonville Beach, Oct. 3; Nordstrom in St. Johns Town Center, Oct. 10.HOBBY LOBBY

Hobby Lobby is planning a North Jacksonville store. The arts and crafts store has signed a lease for the Parkway Shops on Max Leggett Parkway, according to Dawn Hendershot, vice president of investor relations for Ramco Gershenson Properties Trust, the developer.

The store will be 55,000 square feet, she said, with opening expected fall 2015.

It's the first tenant for Parkway's second phase, she said. The first phase is anchored by Dick's Sporting Goods and Marshalls. The shopping center is just north of River City Marketplace, which was also developed by Ramco Gershenson.

It will be the fifth Hobby Lobby in Northeast Florida. It currently has stores on Atlantic Boulevard, Old St. Augustine Road, Beach Boulevard in Jacksonville Beach and Florida 312 in St. Augustine.

The chain is based in Oklahoma City and has more than 600 stores. In June, it won a high-profile case when the United States Supreme Court ruled that some companies do not have to provide contraceptive coverage for their employees.OLIVE GARDEN

Olive Garden said it does intend to tear down and rebuild the Regency restaurant that burned in January. It has been sitting half- burned and idle ever since. But a company spokeswoman would give no more details other than a new Olive Garden will be built on the site.

The restaurant had been there for 24 years.LOTS OF DUNKIN'

A new Dunkin' Donuts/Baskin-Robbins will open this week at 1954 S. Eighth St., Fernandina Beach, and another (just Dunkin') will open later this month at 13627 Beach Blvd. in Jacksonville.

Meanwhile, the closed KFC at 3430 University Blvd. S., just south of Beach Boulevard, is being converted to a Dunkin' Donuts. Suncoast Industrial & Construction Services has the $220,056 contract.MANDARIN

This is something we're seeing a lot more of - developers finding small pieces of land and putting in subdivisions with 20 to 40 homes.

Ballastone will be a new 29-lot subdivision on 10.3 acres just northwest of the Hood Road and Shad Road intersection. Dawson Development paid $900,000 for two parcels at 10202 Old Hood Way and 10140 Hood Road. Permits to demolish the three homes on those lots were issued last week.

Carl Dawson said he's guessing that homes will start at about $250,000, but he said that will be up to D.R. Horton, the exclusive builder for the project. He said he expects to break ground this week. Lots will be 70 by 110 feet.MORE HOMES

Colorado, has launched a home-building company called elacora, with plans to invest $100 million into it this year. In Northeast Florida, it has purchased 24 lots in The Plantation in Ponte Vedra Beach, where homes begin in the $600s, and 100 lots in Madeira in St. Augustine, with homes beginning in the $200s. Victoria Robbins Realty will be the exclusive agent and New Leaf Homes the general contractor.ETC.
