12 Michigan insurance companies that won't charge copays, deductibles for COVID-19
Detroit Free Press (MI)
Apr. 10--State officials announced Friday that they have agreements from nearly all health insurance companies in the state to waive all copays, deductibles and coinsurance for the testing and treatment of coronavirus.
Consumers with those individual and group plans will not be charged any cost-sharing for coronavirus-related treatment, including doctor's visits, lab testing, emergency room visits, ambulance services and FDA-approved medicines.
If and when a vaccine becomes available for coronavirus, it also would be offered at no cost, according to the announcement from the Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services.
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's administration and the department have been urging health insurers to waive those costs.
"I applaud these health insurers for working with Gov. Whitmer to remove financial barriers for those seeking treatment during this crisis," department Director Anita Fox said in a statement.
As of Friday, the insurers who have agreed to waive cost-sharing for their commercial products were:
-- Aetna Better Health of Michigan
-- Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan
-- Blue Care Network
-- HAP, Alliance Health
-- Humana Insurance
-- McLaren Health Plan
-- Meridian Health Plan
-- Molina Healthcare Michigan
-- Physicians Health Plan (PHP)
-- Priority Health
-- Total Health Care
-- United Healthcare
