ACLI conference wraps up with a look at 2023’s regulatory landscape
A panel of experts from the American Council of Life Insurers will provide a review of the most pressing legislative and regulatory challenges facing the industry today during the final day of the association's 2022 annual conference.
Scheduled to speak at a panel discussion on what's ahead for insurance legislation and regulations are Kimberly Ross, ACLI senior vice president, federal relations; Jim Szostek, ACLI vice president and deputy, retirement security, and Leah Walters, ACLI senior vice president, state relations.
A look at what technology means for the future will the topic of Friday's luncheon, with Amy Webb, founder and CEO of the Future Today Institute as the main speaker. Webb will provide a series of snapshots into the future of business and society, drawing from her work and research.
Webb will present a set of optimistic, neutral and chaotic scenarios that describe plausible scenes 10 and 20 years into the future, as well as put forth probable answers to the most pressing questions about work and life.
The conference also will feature a session on the community impact of life insurer investments. A new initiative – 360 Community Capital – has life insurers coming together to do even more to help address the pressing need of affordable housing in underserved communities. This commitment reflects the industry’s focus on what households and communities need in terms of stability, security, and opportunity.
In addition, the conference will include a discussion on recent insurance regulatory developments in California, Connecticut and Colorado, as well guidance from the National Association of Insurance Commissioners and the National Conference of Insurance Legislators, relating to the use of artificial intelligence and big data for underwriting, pricing, marketing and claims processing. This guidance includes merging requirements for bias testing, transparency, explainability, vendor management, governance and documentation.
