Few items taken in business break-ins

July 12--SAN ANGELO, Texas -- Bricks were thrown through glass doors at two San Angelo businesses where drawers were rummaged and several pairs of designer eyeglass frames were stolen.

San Angelo Police said they are investigating the damage at Farmers Insurance as criminal mischief and the theft from Eyes of Texas Optical as burglary of a building.

Both buildings, broken into early Thursday morning, are in the 3400 block of Johnson Street.

Farmers Insurance'sDarrell Freeman said he was alerted when Randy Stacey, with Eyes of Texas, phoned him about the break-in about 6 a.m. Freeman has been at that location 15 years and never had a problem, he said. He installed an alarm system after Thursday's break-in.

Stacey said the frames taken from his shop were valued at about $270 each.

A fitness business between the two locations was not broken into.

Stacey said police believe the break-in started at Farmers, where someone appeared to rifle through drawers.

Motion detectors in Stacey's business went off and likely deterred the person, or people, from taking more than they did. One pair of glasses was found outside the door -- likely dropped as they fled.

Freeman said the businesses deposits money from its registers daily, so no money was taken.

A bowl of Dum Dums suckers and a box of dimes were the only items taken from the insurance agency.
