Western New England University School of Law to Host Healthcare Policy Discussion

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Feb. 14 -- Western New England University issued the following news release:

The Western New England University School of Law continues its series of national policy discussions, Trump: First 100 Days, with a focus on the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare). The event will be held on Thursday, February 16, in the Blake Law Center at 12:00 noon. The discussion will be led by Attorney Ali Bers from the Center for Medicare Advocacy. Ms. Bers conducts federal litigation aimed at making systemic improvements to Medicare for elders and people with disabilities. She also represents individuals who have been denied coverage for medically necessary care, and has litigated numerous class action lawsuits addressing policies and practices that improperly deny Medicare coverage, or block fair access to Medicare's appeal system. She frequently speaks and writes on Medicare topics.

Before joining the Center for Medicare Advocacy, Ms. Bers was an elder law attorney in private practice and was a staff attorney at Western Massachusetts Legal Services (now Community Legal Aid). At Legal Services, she assisted low-income clients with public benefits, and represented beneficiaries as part of the Massachusetts Medicare Advocacy Project. Ms. Bers received her B.A. from Columbia University and her J.D. from Harvard Law School.

Additional discussion topics in following weeks may include, the environment, women's rights, tax reform, the economy, international trade and foreign affairs, voting rights, protection of minorities, workers rights, LGBT concerns, and banking.

Professor Art Wolf, director of the Institute for Legislative and Governmental Affairs in the School of Law will moderate the panel discussions. All forums are free and open to the public.
