Wendy’s to open ninth restaurant in Hawaii

Honolulu Star-Advertiser (HI)

July 19--Hawaii's ninth Wendy's restaurant will open Friday at the Waipio Shopping Center in Central Oahu.

The fast-food chain, owned by Cotti Foods, will open at 9 a.m. after a Hawaiian blessing and give the first 200 customers a Junior Frosty with any purchase.

The 3,450-square-foot restaurant will be able to accommodate about 90 customers and will include a drive-thru. Hours of operation are Sunday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 1 a.m., and Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 2 a.m.

California-based Cotti Foods, a family-owned business that has the exclusive franchise rights for Hawaii, plans to open more locations on Oahu and Maui. The company also owns 82 Taco Bell restaurants, 90 Wendy's locations and eight Pieology Pizzeria eateries in Hawaii and the mainland.

First Insurance of Hawaii makes top 50 list

First Insurance Co. of Hawaii, the oldest and largest property and casualty insurer based in Hawaii, was named Tuesday as one of the top 50 insurance companies nationwide for the ninth consecutive year by the Ward Group, an evaluator of industry performance. FICOH is the only Hawaii-based company to make the list.

FICOH also is the only Hawaii-based P&C insurance company rated A+ (superior) by A.M. Best, a global credit rating and information service.

"We are honored to be consistently recognized as one of the leading property and casualty insurance companies in the United States," Jeff Shonka, president and CEO of First Insurance, said in a statement.

FICOH, founded Aug. 11, 1911, had assets of $661 million, liabilities of $387.9 million and policyholders' surplus of $273.1 million as of Dec. 31.

Catholic Charities gets $100K donation

Catholic Charities Hawaii has received a $100,000 pledge from the Bank of Hawaii Foundation for its Laulima House campaign. The pledge will support the expansion of services for children and families at the Laulima House, which is next to Catholic Charities' main campus in Makiki.

"This will allow us to expand our programs at the Laulima House to meet the growing needs of the community and to offer a place of healing in a more comfortable, less institutional setting," CCH President and CEO Terry Walsh said Monday.

Catholic Charities Hawaii purchased the Laulima House property at 1802 Keeaumoku St. in 2015.
