VOA Mid-States Holds Announcement with Kentucky Association of Health Plans on Family-focused Recovery Program in Lincoln County

Special to the Interior JournalThe Interior Journal

On Wed., Nov. 20, Volunteers of America Mid-States (VOA) and Kentucky Association of Health Plans (KAHP) hosted Lincoln County Judge/Executive Woods Adams, Stanford Mayor Dalton Miller, State Senator Brandon Storm, Kentucky House Speaker Pro Tem David Meade, and community leaders at the Historic L & N Depot and Museum. The group announced a $1,500,000 grant from KAHP to support the development of VOA's recovery program for pregnant and parenting women in Stanford, Kentucky.

VOA's Freedom House is a nationally recognized recovery program for women struggling with addiction. Using an evidence-based clinical services model of recovery treatment, Freedom House helps women overcome substance use disorder and works to reunite families broken apart by addiction.

In 2023, the organization announced the planned expansion of the program to Lincoln County. On November 20, VOA shared that KAHP's significant investment will be a catalyst to fight substance use disorder across the region.

"Support from KAHP is vital to the development of Freedom House in Lincoln County and will help us serve so many more families struggling across the Commonwealth," said VOA Mid-States President and CEO Jennifer Hancock.

The grant provides the organization with $1,500,00 over three years. With the funding, VOA has brought Branscum Construction on the expansion project to start work on demolishing the old Fort Logan Hospital and creating a master plan to turn the property into a welcoming new facility for women and their children.

"VOA's model works. They're not focused on a big ad budget, they are 100% committed to supporting individuals and families with Substance Use Disorder," said KAHP President and CEO, Tom Stephens. "Jennifer Hancock and her team go to work every day to make sure VOA is delivering effective, evidenced-based treatment. It is why they are sought after by communities around the Commonwealth. They provide high value care and are making change. We are proud for them to be a KAHP grant partner for the third time."

The joint efforts of VOA and KAHP will ensure families across Kentucky have access to effective and comprehensive recovery treatment and support.
