Dec. 12--One person went to the hospital after a vehicle crashed into a building in north Leavenworth, police officials said.
The wreck was reported at 5:42 p.m. Monday at Fifth and Ottawa streets.
A 26-year-old woman was driving a 2008 Buick LaCrosse east on Ottawa Street. She allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with a 2006 GMC Envoy that was traveling north on Fifth Street.
The Envoy then struck a 2012 Chrysler Town and Country that was parked on the street. The Envoy also crashed into a building located at 603 N. Fifth St., according to police officials.
Leavenworth Police Chief Pat Kitchens said the crash caused considerable damage to the building.
He said the occupants of the building were relocated for the night with assistance from the American Red Cross.
The drivers involved in the crash refused transport to the hospital from Leavenworth County EMS. But the 66-year-old man who was driving the Envoy received a ride to the hospital from an acquaintance. Kitchens said the man went to the hospital to be checked out.
The driver of the LaCrosse was cited by police for allegedly failing to stop at stop sign and not having proof of valid insurance.
The other driver also was cited for not having proof of valid insurance, according to Maj. Dan Nicodemus, deputy chief of the Leavenworth Police Department.
