United Way offers help for marketplace signups

BREVARD COUNTY - Finding the right health insurance plan can be downright confusing but you don't have to search alone.

Take advantage of the free assistance being offered by United Way of Brevard Navigators in offices throughout the county. Enrollment through the marketplace is open through Jan. 15, 2022.

Navigators are licensed by the state and are certified by the Federal government. They are available to help residents understand the many health care plan options from deductibles, coinsurance, copayments, out of pocket costs, benefits and prescription coverage, premiums and more.

Appointments are encouraged by calling (321) 615-3764 but walk-ins are also accepted.

"This program is specifically for folks interested in buying health insurance though the marketplace," said United Way program director Morgan Bonilla.

Residents can sit down with an advisor for an hour and they are advised to bring last year's tax return with them. Other helpful information to bring is the social security number for family members who would be included in the health care plan.

After the meeting, individuals will take home some health care plans that meet their needs, look over the information further at home, and then return to the advisor to fill out applications.

"Health care plans change a lot from year to year," Ms. Bonilla said. "In Brevard County, there's been two additions of health plans. Even if you have the same health plan on the marketplace, we encourage folks not to just renew but to go back and see what other plans offer."

Reviewing other health care plans will most likely save residents money, Ms. Bonilla added.

If you want your health insurance to begin by Jan. 1, 2022, it is important to enroll no later than Dec. 15, 2021. Otherwise, if residents who wait until the extended deadline won't start their plans until February 2022.

Most sites are open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for assistance.
