U.S. Rep. Angie Craig Introduces Bill to Make Insulin Affordable for Americans Without Health Insurance

WASHINGTON, May 12 -- Rep. Angie Craig, D-Minnesota, issued the following news release on May 11, 2023:

U.S. Representative Angie Craig introduced the Emergency Access to Insulin Act to help Americans without health insurance afford insulin.

The bill would expand emergency insulin access, lower costs for those without health insurance and take additional steps to hold drug companies accountable for price gouging Americans.

U.S. Rep. Dean Phillips helped introduce the House bill and U.S. Senator Smith introduced companion legislation in the Senate.

"We've seen firsthand over the last several months that the pressure we've put on drug companies to lower insulin costs is working, and today's bill is the next step in our fight to make insulin affordable for every American who needs it. I'm grateful to Rep. Phillips and Sen. Smith for their partnership on this important issue," said Rep. Craig.

Since entering Congress, Rep. Craig has been a leader in the fight to lower prescription drug prices, with a specific focus on insulin. Last year, provisions of Rep. Craig's Affordable Insulin Now Act to cap insulin copays at $35/month for Medicare recipients were signed into law as part of the Inflation Reduction Act.
