Two women face charges in fatal crashes involving marijuana

Jan. 18--TRAVERSE CITY -- Two women are facing charges stemming from fatal December crashes involving the use of marijuana.

Grand Traverse County Prosecutor Bob Cooney authorized a felony charge against both Abby Rose Miller, 19 of Grawn, and Jennifer Lynn Greenwood, 39 of Bear Lake, with operating with any amount of a controlled substance (marijuana) causing death stemming from their separate vehicle crashes both on Dec. 10, according to a Wednesday release. The felony charge carries a 15-year prison sentence if convicted.

Miller was driving her vehicle on Keystone Road near Hoch Road when she crossed the centerline and struck an oncoming vehicle causing fatal injuries to Armond Worrell, 83 of Interlochen, on Dec. 10, the release states. A 17-year-old passenger in Miller's vehicle was sent to a local hospital for serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The second crash occurred the same day but on US-31 near Betsie River Road, when Greenwood also crossed the centerline while driving and struck an oncoming vehicle, the release states. The crash killed Victoria Laviola, 59 of Interlochen, who was the front-seat passenger in Greenwood's vehicle. Marissa Laviola, 18 of Thompsonville, who was riding in the back seat of the vehicle, suffered serious injuries including a broken leg.

Greenwood was also charged with operating a motor vehicle with any amount of a controlled substance causing serious injury, a 5-year felony, operating a motor vehicle without insurance and possession of marijuana.
