Dayton Daily News (OH)
Jun. 29--Over 90 members of a Kettering-based organization gifted families who were affected by the Memorial Day tornadoes.
Tzu Chi Foundation, meaning "compassion relief" distributed 500 money cards to Trotwood and Harrison Twp. residents Saturday morning at the Trotwood Community and Cultural Center.
The families were pre-selected by the non-governmental organization and the Red Cross to received gift cards valued at $400 each.
"Earlier this month, our members helped with the tornado debris cleanup in Trotwood, but we wanted to do more," local director Kuo Chen Lin said. "So we wanted to return, mobilize our resources and help people."
One Trotwood resident said his insurance company doesn't cover everything that was destroyed so the gift card will help.
"I'm retired and my wife and our grandson are handicapped, so this money will really help. We are just grateful we are alive after the tornadoes wrecked out home," said Charles Baker.
