Trista Fergerson wins $5,000 video contest

Dodge City Daily Globe, The (KS)

Jul. 31--The votes were tallied for the annual Shelter Insurance Companies "Thankful for Our Communities" contest, an opportunity to show why you are thankful for your community for which participants could either submit an essay or a three- to five-minute video.

According to Shelter Insurance, this year, Trista Fergerson created a winning video about Dodge City and chose the Perfect Fit Foundation of SWK as one of the recipients of the $5,000 award.

The check will be presented Thursday during the Dodge City Days Roundup Rodeo.

"This was a great opportunity for us to highlight not only how amazing a community Dodge City is, but also for us to raise money for a great cause in Perfect Fit Foundation," said Perfect Fit Foundation of SWK president and co-founder Trista Fergerson. "The $5,000 dollar donation to the foundation from Shelter Insurance will go towards expenses in opening Perfect Fit Therapy Clinic.

"We are so appreciative and grateful to Shelter Insurance for putting on a contest like this to help organization like ours."

The Dodge City High School broadcasting and speech teacher had entered a video in the contest where five winners would each receive a $5,000 grant for the charity of their choice.

According to Shelter Insurance, Fergerson's entry was titled "Thankful for Dodge City" and captured the meaning of the contest. The video talks about Dodge City's rich history, highlights Dodge City Days, the progress the community has made, the industry and culture.

Contestants needed to make the top 10 of voting results in order to qualify for one of the five $5,000 prizes either with a video or essay entry.

The No. 1 overall vote-getter was automatically declared one of the winners, while a panel of judges decided the other four based on the other nine top vote-getters.

This contest gave people an opportunity to explain what makes their communities stand out as Shelter Insurance has always encouraged community involvement, the company said.

"We chose this approach because we wanted to point out the many positive aspects to the communities we serve and honor the people who can make a difference in those areas," said Frank Thompson, vice president of marketing for Shelter Insurance. "We also wanted to find out what's important to the citizens in these communities and help support those causes.

"This contest was a fun way to do that."
