Johnson's policy with Artisan did not cover those charges, so the insurance company never paid them. The town obtained the money via Johnson's tax return, according to the lawsuit.
Artisan wants the town to repay Johnson and award her damages. It is also seeking a declaration that the town had "no legal authority" to collect the money from Johnson, according to the lawsuit.
The Gazette was unable to reach the town or lawyers representing Artisan for further comment.
