Aug. 13--Housing events tonight and Thursday seek to help homeowners and renters struggling to put homes back together after the Memorial Day tornadoes.
The Housing Recovery Resource Fairs are designed to create a one-stop shop for people to gather information needed to rebuild homes or find new homes and apartments in locations that meet their needs and budgets, said Tom Kelley, assistant county administrator for Human Services.
"Housing issues from the tornadoes could last for years, and we need to provide resources that will bring citizens stability as quickly as possible," he said.
The first Housing Recovery Resource Fair will be tonight from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Kroc Center, 1000 N. Keowee Street in Dayton. The second on Thursday will run from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Maranatha Worship Centre, 4501 Wolf Road in Trotwood.
Montgomery County organized the two events at the request of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), according to the county.
Topics will include homeowner assistance, renter assistance, FEMA process and special population assistance for seniors, veterans and persons with disabilities.
Homeowner topics include guidance on rebuilding/repairing, demolition, inspections, permits, taxes, utilities, insurance and financing. Renter information will include temporary assistance, rights/responsibilities, housing search, public housing and transition planning to permanent housing.
