Tim Russell Begins Term as President of National Association of Professional Insurance Agents

WASHINGTON, Oct. 6 -- The National Association of Professional Insurance Agents issued the following news release:

Timothy G. Russell, CPCU, of Southport, Connecticut began a one-year term as President of the National Association of Professional Insurance Agents (PIA) on October 1, 2017. Russell's term runs from now through September 30, 2018.

Tim is a third generation owner of The Russell Agency, LLC, along with his brother George. The Russell Agency is an independent insurance agency located in Southport, Connecticut.

"One of the messages that I want to deliver as President of PIA is that being an independent insurance agent is an excellent career choice for young people," said Russell. "It is exciting, fun, and can be very lucrative. Plus, independent insurance agents are on the cutting edge of technology. It's a great life."

Russell was chosen as the Professional Insurance Agent of the Year by The Professional Insurance Agents of Connecticut (PIACT) in 2009. He is a Past President of PIACT. In 2010, he was named the National Professional Agent of the Year by PIA National, honored for his contributions to the insurance industry, the independent agency system and to his PIA colleagues, along with his commitment to education, involvement in community affairs and overall success.

From 2005-2007, Russell served as President of the Southern Connecticut Chapter of the Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriters (CPCU). Active in civic and industry groups, he served as President of the Fairfield (Connecticut) Rotary Club from 2003-2004; is a past member of the Executive Board of the Fairfield Museum and History Center; and a Past President of the Southport Merchants Association.

Russell received his Bachelors of Business Administration in Risk Management and Insurance, with an Agency Management tract, from the University of Georgia. He joined the Russell Agency in 1994, where he concentrates mainly on commercial insurance. From the late 1980s to the early 1990s, Tim was a professional stand-up comedian working out of The Comic Strip in Manhattan.

Tim lives in Sandy Hook, Connecticut with his wife Bobbie Sue and their three children, Judge, Walker, and Mila.
